DescriptionRaymond Terrace has history as rich as Newcastle, Maitland and Morpeth and was one of the most important river ports on the Hunter River in the 1800's. At one point 7 Steam Ships a day would dock at Raymond Terrace Wharves taking produce to Newcastle. The 1841 census showed the village contained 47 houses, with 364 poeple, including 105 convicts.
Raymond Terrace still has many historic buildings still standing from the 1800's including 3 stone Churches, Historic homes, Court house and Masonic Centre.
King Street was the original CBD of Raymond Terrace until the devastating 1955 flood. Many 19th century buildings still stand in King Street some dating back to the 1840's.
In the 1800's there were 5 Hotels in the CBD catering for the influx of visitors, farmers, timber getters, vagabonds and business people in the village. Today there are only 4 pubs operating in the entire town!
Deaths were commonplace with causes such as Drownings, Suicides, Murder and unfortunate accidents.
This tour will be a walking street tour focusing on history and ghost stories of the town you will also have the opportunity to have a "play" with some ghost hunting equipment.
